Academic Programs

About Our Programs

The Department of Structural Geology and Remote Sensing offers a variety of academic programs that aim to teach students the skills necessary to deal with different geological data, and focus on structural geology. The programs also promote the dissemination of the culture of using computer programs and their applications, especially remote sensing programs, GIS programs, and methods of land surveying and imaging.

Bachelor program

The department's program consists of general courses in geology in the pre-specialization stage in the department, then the focus will be on specialized courses in structural geology and remote sensing, such as the study and analysis of terrestrial structures and methods of measurement and use of them in locating natural resources, and determining the kinetic history of the study areas.
Courses related to the use of modern technologies such as remote sensing and GIS are also offered to deal with aerial and space images, produce various geological maps, locate natural resources, and study geological hazards.

Program objectives

  1. Preparing plans and programs that provide graduates with knowledge, scientific skills and methods of scientific research.
  2. Intensifying the necessary skills in the field of specialization in order to align the graduate students with the labor market.
  3. Refine students' skills in areas related to structural geology and remote sensing.
  4. Intensifying scientific applications related to specialization, such as geological survey and spatial information systems.
Program admission requirement (general conditions)

Students must complete 72 credit units of university and faculty requirements to place a request for admission to the program. When students successfully finish the 6th semester (equivalent to 98 credit units) their application is processed.
Students are admitted to the program if their GPA is 3.0/5.0 or more and received a minimum grade of 70 “C” in ESR 110, ESR 220, and ESR 221.

Program completion and graduation requirements

Students graduates from the proagram after successfully completing all courses prescribed by the plan and completing 207 credit hours and passing KAU Exit Exam.
